TOTE BAGS: BASICS AND BEYOND

Single-use plastic shopping bags will be a thing of the past in Maine after Earth Day 2020. Do you want to learn how to make your own reusable fabric tote bags? Are you puzzled about adding a lining? Join sewist Jane McLean at Belfast Free Library as she demonstrates how to create lined and unlined bags from a variety of cost-effective materials. She will add pockets, box bottoms, closures, and waterproof lining. Written instructions will be provided.

The free sewing demonstration will be held Monday, March 30, 1:00-3:00, in the Abbott Room. McLean formerly operated a small sewing business, PinchPenny Threads. A retired special educator, she now lives, sews, knits, and plays the ukulele in Belfast.
  •  At PinchPenny Threads, we believe in second chances. Some of these bags are made with clothing and fabrics from thrift shops, yard sales, and quilt show marketplaces.
