WORKSHOP: Storytelling Through Fabric
I am happy to offer a hands-on workshop where participants
View a tabletop display of select panels from the Circles of My Life: A Fiber Art Celebration exhibit
Learn the process of telling a personal story using fabric pieces in a traditional pattern
Create a framed 8"x8" wall hanging based on the Folded Star pattern; no sewing is required

Details:
Participants: ages 15 and up, no sewing experience is needed
Group size: up to 15
Time: Approximately one hour
Space: tables and chairs; additional table space for display is preferable but not required
Materials, all supplied at no cost: backing with grid, central fabric square, folded fabric triangles in contrasting colors, glue, frames, paper clips

Create a framed 8”x8” wall hanging based on the Folded Star patchwork pattern; no sewing is required
Share  a story about their work

Participants: ages 10-17, no sewing experience needed
Group Size: up to 10 participants
Time: approximately one hour, daytime only
Space: tables and chairs
Materials: all materials are supplied at no cost: backing with grid, central fabric square, folded fabric triangles in contrasting colors, frame, glue

I grew up in the countryside of New Hampshire. I lived in a city for a dozen years but always yearned to get back to rural living. When we bought an old farmhouse in Upstate New York, I moved a little bed to an east-facing window so in the morning I could watch "that familiar sunrise through sleepy eyes... "

Young artists will also receive materials to make a Folded Star wall hanging out of paper at home.
​About Jane McLean: I come from a long line of accomplished needle workers and continue the tradition in my small studio, PinchPenny Threads. I am a retired special educator and speech-language pathologist, as well as a lifelong performer. I have taught adult classes in family storytelling and in 2020 co-authored Belfast with Megan Pinette for the Belfast Historical Society and Museum.
